Is it worth upgrading to OnePlus?

Are you attracted to the OnePlus phones and planning to buy one? STOP! Stop right there! 2021 is not the best time to buy a OnePlus device. Don’t break your heart if you are a OnePlus fan just like me.

What’s wrong with ONEPLUS in 2021?

I don’t recommend you to buy a OnePlus device in 2021. To know why, let’s jump into the past where OnePlus first launched it’s OnePlus band at a price of Rs.2500/- on January 5th. Later that month, OnePlus had its biggest event in March 2021. It launched 4 devices i.e, OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, Oneplus 9R and OnePlus watch.

Let’s head back to January, Where OnePlus band was successful and a lot of people bought that. But it has so many problems that it’s better to move to Mi band 5. Though it’s not a perfect band, it is more considerable than the OnePlus band. The major two flaws in the OnePlus band is the Sleep Tracking. Sleep Tracking in the OnePlus band is inaccurate(Most People buy fitness bands for sleep tracking). Even though the OnePlus band got plenty of software updates in only a few months, the thing did not get changed. The second is the OnePlus health app with a lot of features missing when compared to other fitness apps. I don’t want to go too deep comparing those apps. In short, the OnePlus band was released for the sake of releasing it. It doesn’t even have an edge over Mi band 5 or other bands in the market. Even though they have almost the same price.

Let’s dive into the March event where the OnePlus 9 series and watch was released. The OnePlus 9 in India only got two 5G bands with just a 5G tag on it. Where in the USA it got plenty of 5G bands. Anyways as per OnePlus customer representative, they are releasing more bands in future. The OnePlus 9 does not support wireless charging in India variants. Well, OnePlus doesn’t go for practical things because it still doesn’t support IP68 water resistance because it causes you extra money. But now they went out and spent USD 150 millions for Hasselblad branding which is just optimized and added colours to the camera till now. Basically it’s just a filter on a photo as of now.

Moving on to the OnePlus 9 Pro, it has a lot of good specs on paper. But it has two problems. Number 1 is Pricing, The pricing jumps all the way from Rs.48,999/-(OnePlus 7T Pro) to Rs.64,999/-(OnePlus 9 Pro). It has a massive change, in just 3 years the price of OnePlus flagships has jumped almost Rs.20,000/-

Second, OnePlus 9. OnePlus has pushed its buyers to 9 PRO by making many compromising specs in 9 devices. In some cases OnePlus Nord is better than OnePlus 9. They also made a cheaper OnePlus variant i.e, OnePlus 9R. That was released exclusively in India but don’t be fooled. It’s just rebranding 8T to 9R. We didn’t expect this from OnePlus. We already have 8T selling in the market.

Finally the most disappointing release ever made by OnePlus. The OnePlus Watch could have three things better to stand up in the market. First there is no reply notification option in OnePlus smartwatch. It can’t be called smart if you can’t even reply to notifications(LOL!!!). Second it only comes in 46mm, which is a XXL size in watch. People with average height don’t like to wear a XXL because it doesn’t even fit. And the last thing is it doesn’t even have a WearOS. How could you call it a smartwatch if it is not having a WearOS. It’s better to call it a fitness band with a larger display.

Yes, it’s a business mind game. Every company has to get big, make more money and get more profits. But it hurts as an enthusiast to say it like.., ‘‘a breakup!’’. But somewhere I am happy because it is heading toward the mainstream. But stay smart, because it is not better upgrading to OnePlus this year.
