Apple and it’s Silicon

Apple started making it’s own custom silicon, A4 Chip, from April 2010, in First iPad and iPhone 4 and it laid the foundation for the development of more advanced chips that are used in current Apple devices.

On November 2022, Apple launched M1 Chip through MacBook Air, Pro and Mac mini models. It is the first step in Apple’s transition to using custom-designed silicon in its Macs, and it marks a significant change in the company’s strategy for its Mac lineup.

Apple just announced it’s 5 nanometer M2 Pro and M2Max to it’s M2 family.

Apple has made a significant shift in its hardware strategy by designing its own custom silicon for use in its devices. This move away from relying on third-party processors has resulted in significant improvements in performance and efficiency for Apple’s products.

One of the main reasons for this shift is control. By designing its own chips, Apple is able to have a greater degree of control over the performance and features of its devices. This allows the company to optimize the hardware and software of its devices to work seamlessly together, resulting in improved performance, longer battery life, and faster response times. Additionally, designing its own chips allows Apple to differentiate its products from those of its competitors, by introducing new features and capabilities more quickly.

Another key advantage of designing its own chips is the ability to tailor the technology to specific needs. For example, Apple’s custom processors have been optimized for machine learning and artificial intelligence, which are becoming increasingly important in consumer devices. This allows Apple to build devices that are better suited to running advanced applications, such as facial recognition and natural language processing.

By designing its own chips, Apple is also able to reduce its dependence on third-party suppliers. This allows the company to have more control over the production process and to reduce the risk of supply chain disruptions. Additionally, it also allows Apple to maintain a higher level of secrecy about its products, which is particularly important in the highly competitive tech industry.

This move is a clear indication of Apple’s commitment to innovation and its desire to stay ahead of the curve in the tech industry.
